I read this in Deep Church recently:

"Having the 'proper confidence' makes us gentle with other believers who have different perspectives on the Bible and truth. Recognizing the influence of sin on us, we realize that we don't always see clearly and that our theological positions may not explain biblical truth in the fullest. We are open to learning from other traditions, believing that their perspective may be helpful to us...

Multiperspectivalism reduces pride, making us cognitively modest."

Agreed. No theological "system" perfectly captures Scripture; though some do a better job than others.

Jonathan - thanks for stopping by the site. Hopefully you'll find some helpful posts here.

Seminary Nerd - I found myself agreeing with some of Andrew Jones's critiques. In my opinion, however, these are not necessarily problems spawned by Calvinism (a robust view of the sovereignty of God) per se, but can come anywhere a specific system of theology is held up as the end-all, be-all without humble interaction with other theological systems.

Greetings. Found your blog through twitter. I think you found me on twitter from my posts while at the A29 conference. Anywho, I read your link for the New Calvinism. I don't think the criticism was "correct," but the guy had some good points. Especially about the point of "it's all about the big hairy guy." Yeah, I think sometimes the reformed church leaders can be worshiped. On the other hand, reformed theology ought to bring humility to all aspects of one's life.

Nice site. God bless!
